How to Know and Shop for Your Skin Type
Hey Embraced Beauty!
Can we talk about skincare? Yes. Great! As a makeup artist I’ve learned how critical proper skincare is to your overall look and confidence as well as to the application and appearance of makeup. No amount of makeup can erase your skin issues. I know first hand because I tried in college and failed miserably. You have to properly treat and care for your skin before makeup even comes into play.
The first step to taking care of your skin is knowing your skin type. Once you know your skin type, you can find the skincare products that are meant specifically for your skin and will yield the most effective results. Even if you choose not to wear makeup everyday you still want to take care of your skin. Good skincare will help to create a good base for makeup application.
I’m sharing the five most common skin types, the common characteristics of each type, and key product ingredients to look for you when shopping for skincare products. I’ve even provided some products for you to consider adding to your routine!
Now, I’m not an esthetician or dermatologist so please note that my recommendations are general guidelines from my personal research and experience. It’s always a great idea to consult your friendly professional esthetician or dermatologist for specific advice and guidance for your skin.
Learning which skin type I have and some of the key ingredients to look for when shopping for skincare products has helped me greatly in treating, controlling, and caring for my combination, acne prone skin. Comparing my skin to the characteristics listed and then monitoring my skin helped me to better understand what my skin needed. The next time you’re looking at your skin care products or shopping for something new, use these tips as a reference.
